Wonder why we Wander?

This is NOT, I repeat NOT, the thought of the day for our Sunday class.  No, in fact it is a plug for tonight's small group class that meets at the building, at 7pm upstairs in the library.  Be there or be square...

So anyway, we're ready The Story and this week's chapter is about the Israelites wandering in the desert for 40 years.  Have you ever felt like that, like you're just wandering?  Sometimes it feels like we're neither moving forward or falling backward, but stuck, in a rut, wandering.  Why does God allow that to happen?  What was it about His desire for the Israelites and for us that makes wandering a good idea?  Let me hear your thoughts!

  1. Who says we're in a rut? That's our perception of what is going on. For God it could be the time WE need to become what He wants us to be. There's examples of this all through the bible. Joseph, Noah, the Israelites just to name a few. There had to be times when Noah felt like he was spinning his wheels! Building for what? 100 years or something? Sunshine and blue skies all around!

Wandering gives us the ability to learn and grow. When you finally get to the end of whatever journey you are on, you, as a person are usually changed. Hopefully for the better as I would imagine is God's intent. Where the problem comes in is when we start second guessing the journey as the Israelites did. They whined and complained and kept getting more "suffering" or punishment or whatever you wish to call it put on them. It's not our job to doubt the path God has set us on, just to follow it and grow in the process.

  2. Joel,
Well said... you're quite the commenter these days which I must say I REALLY appreciate. So my follow up question is... does God perpetuate, encourage or just allow our "wandering?" Anybody have any thoughts...

  3. That's a hard one. Is it just us perhaps not understanding where He wants us to go? Or is He guiding us on a path that will eventually enlighten us to something specific? Kinda goes back to the whole free will vs predestination thing. And....I gotta go finish my homework. ;)
